biogas to hydrogen
Green hydrogen and biogenic CO2
Biomass fermentation is the established technology for producing methane and CO2 from organic residues: Manure, slurry, kitchen waste, sewage treatment plants, plant cuttings.....
Today, the biogas produced is mainly used to generate green electricity and, in some locations, to feed biomethane into the natural gas grid. If there is no energy demand, it is simply flared in many places around the world.
How about a model for the future: hydrogen!
A local hydrogen economy can already be created today in decentralized clusters. Biohydrogen thus has an accompanying pioneering function in the long-term development of a nationwide pipeline infrastructure. But one thing is clear: the short-term business model for hydrogen is transportation.
And thinking ahead:
Who is best at capturing CO2 from the air? It's the plants on your land that have always done it. Ultimately, we find the carbon in biogas. CO2 sequestration in the "bio-hydrogen" plant is an additional and viable option. In this sense, we are opening up the field for climate-positive fuel and the sale of bio-based carbon dioxide.
